Vernon County Sheriff Gene Cary reported the arrest of a Westby man, in connection with multiple deliveries of marijuana that occurred in the city of Westby.

Adam J. Hanson, age 26, was arrested on Thursday, March 20 in Westby, as a result of an investigation into illegal behavior dating back to 2004 and continuing through 2008.

During a bond hearing for Hanson on Monday, March 24, Hanson was released on a signature bond.

A public defender will be appointed to the case if Hanson fails to secure his own defense.

Hanson’s initial appearance is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, March 28 at the Vernon County Courthouse, where he is expected to be charged with at least three counts of illegal drug delivery.

The investigation continues by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department and the Westby Police Department.

Anyone with information regarding illegal drug activity is encouraged to contact the Vernon County Sheriff’s department at 608-637-2123 or Vernon County Crime Stoppers at 608-637-8477.

" You are comparing apples to oranges when you compare a speeding ticket to a drug charge. It is not like the police can walk into someones house and arrest them based on suspicion. There has to be probable cause and there is a lot of investigation that goes into drug related offenses, especially delivery. "

" Was this illegal behavior actually suspected for 4 years? If so, why in the world did it take 4 years to arrest this man? I've seen more effort put into giving out speeding tickets to otherwise law-abiding citizens. "
