Vandals strike Westby’s Davidson Park

On Sunday, May 4, the Westby Police Department was dispatched to Davidson Park for reported vandalism to the restroom and shelter house facilities along with the park’s scenic historic rocks. Upon arrival Officer Matt White found the lock on the men’s restroom door was broken, the door had been kicked in and feces smeared around the facilities.

Vandals not only caused extensive damage inside the park restroom, but proceeded to spray paint what appeared to be gang-related symbols on the backside of the restroom building. The words “South Side” were painted on the building and the main “S” symbol was also painted on the upper west side rocks. Various markings were also found on the north side of the lower shelter house, where Hamburgers in the Park is held during the summer, and on the backside of the center grouping of historic rocks.

According to Police Chief Mitch Hundt damage at the park continues to be an annual crime, which creates hardship for city taxpayers, city employees and city residents who enjoy spending time at the public park throughout the year.

The Westby Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding this illegal activity to contact their local police department or Vernon County Crime Stoppers at 637-8477 of 1-800-657-6868.
