The upcoming spring election could keep area poll workers busy as many governmental seats come up for re-election on April 7, 2009.

In the village of Coon Valley four trustee positions will go to the highest vote getters including the position of village president, currently held by Monte Nelson; along with trustee seats currently held by Melanie Role, Charles Lind and Roger Starkey.

In the village of Chaseburg, incumbents Ken Bluske, village president; and Jon Myhre, village trustee will both need to take out nomination papers to retain their positions during the spring caucus.

In the city of Westby four seats will be up for re-election including: Mayor Dan Jefson’s seat; Ward 2 and 4 representative Kelvin Hanson; Ward 3 and 5 representative Eric Nottestad, who took out noncandidacy papers and Ward 1 representative Brad Mashak.

Area townships will also be holding elections. In the town of Christiana, town chairman David Eggen will have to defend his seat; along with supervisors, Roger Lewison and Judy Schmirler; town clerk Jackie Olson and town treasurer Diane Buros.

In the town of Hamburg, Rod Erlandson will have to run for re-election to retain his town board chairman seat, along with town board supervisors Ronald Humfeld and Gary Antoniewicz. The positions of town treasurer Dayna Schultz and clerk Jackie Stalsberg will also be on the spring ballot.

If a primary election is needed to determine candidates, it is scheduled for Feb. 7, 2009 with the general spring election on April 7, 2009.
