Newly crowned 1999 Chaseburg Snowtrailer royalty are Queen Danielle Clements, the daughter of Debbie and Mike Clements, and Princess Neshay Evers, the daughter of Gary and Sue Evers.
A water pipe burst outside the new Westby Elementary School building on Christmas Day and damaged the gymnasium floor.
Myriah Erickson has been chosen Youth of the Month for January. The award is sponsored by the Westby Optimist Club.
Clara Mehlum was nominated secretary pro-tempore at the Westby Senior Citizens. Howard Lee is the new director to replace Doris Volden, who is the new secretary.

Five Westby students, Joel Nevin, Kristen Nelson, Craig Dunnum, Lois Larson and Dan Odeen, will be among more than 1,100 high school students participating in Luther College’s 34th Annual Dorian Vocal Festival.
Brian Shepherdson, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Shepherdson of Coon Valley, was named student of the month for November.
Robin Hoyum, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hoyum, left for Wichita, Kansas after accepting a position with A.R.A. Food Services as an assistant manager at Gear Lear Jet Corp.
A daughter, Jill Marie, was born December 29th at St. Francis Hospital in La Crosse to Jean and Jim Urbanek, making a big brother of Justin.

Suzanne Moilien, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Moilien of Coon Valley , is the district winner of the cherry pie baking contest held in La Crosse.
The annual meeting of Our Savior’s Lutheran congregation was held in the church parlors with the following ministerial acts reported: 20 baptisms, 17 young people confirmed, 4 weddings, 8 funerals, and 38 new members added.
H.B. Olson, Westby native now residing in Eau Claire, has been named an area manager for the Socony Mobil Oil Company, Inc., with headquarters at Duluth, Minn.
Miss Gloria Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Johnson, has gone to Atlanta, Ga., where she has accepted a position as flight stewardess with the Eastern Air Lines.

At Our Savior’s parsonage, Rev. S.O. Rondestvedt officiating, occurred the marriage on January 3, 1934, at six o’clock in the evening, of Mr. and Leonard Nelson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nels T. Nelson, and Miss Olga Hanson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry G. Hanson.
The CWA is providing classes in guitar and banjo instruction on the new unemployed teachers’ program. The classes are organized by Harold Clancy of Viroqua and there is no charge for the lessons.
The average residential property in the city of Westby is assessed at $1,600.00. The tax on this property for the year 1933 payable in 1934 is $45.86, which is divided as follows: State Tax, $.19; County Tax, $14.34; City Tax, $6.13; and School Tax, $25.20.
Miss Charlene Jefson entertained twenty of her young friends last week at the home of her parents.
